“It’s very exciting to expand the reach of our newspaper,” GTLN Executive Director DuBose Porter said. “We will deliver news in whatever way our readers prefer: online, via newsletters and in print. This is a giant leap forward for The News Observer.”
The new website is integral to the ongoing transformation efforts from the Georgia Trust for Local News, which recently acquired The News Observer and 17 other newspapers across Georgia and launched The Macon Melody.
The website was built by Indiegraf, a company that specializes in websites and digital products for independent, local news companies. The News Observer will continue to publish a print edition each week. The Georgia Trust for Local News is part of the National Trust for Local News, a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community news by working with communities to make the at-scale, transformational changes needed for established community news organizations to thrive and remain deeply grounded in their communities. NTLN operates state-level trusts in Colorado and Maine, in addition to Georgia.
